Anti-Stain & Anti-Footprint Treatment | GFS Italy

Invisible nano-coating protection that prevents stains, footprints and water marks on luxury floor surfaces.

Invisible Protection

Anti-stain nano-coating being applied to marble floor

Permanent Stain Defence

Luxury flooring materials—marble, granite, travertine, porcelain stoneware—are constantly exposed to potential staining agents in hospitality environments. Spilled wine in a restaurant, coffee in a lobby café, olive oil in a kitchen corridor, and even the natural oils from bare feet in spa areas can leave permanent marks on unprotected surfaces. Footprints on dark polished floors are another persistent aesthetic problem that frustrates housekeeping teams.

GFS anti-stain treatment applies an invisible protective barrier to the surface using advanced fluoropolymer or silane/siloxane-based nano-coatings. These formulations penetrate the open pores of natural stone or bond to the surface of porcelain tiles at a molecular level, creating a hydrophobic and oleophobic barrier. Liquids bead up on the treated surface rather than being absorbed, giving staff time to wipe up spills before any staining can occur.

For dark polished surfaces where footprints are a persistent complaint, we apply an anti-fingerprint coating that reduces the visibility of skin oils and moisture marks. This oleophobic layer causes fingerprints and foot marks to be significantly less visible and far easier to remove during routine cleaning. The treatment is particularly popular for dark marble (Nero Marquina, Sahara Noir), dark granite, and black polished porcelain tiles.

The nano-coating is completely invisible and does not alter the colour, gloss, texture or tactile feel of the surface. It does not create a film or coating that can peel, flake or yellow over time. Instead, it integrates with the surface material at a molecular level, providing protection from within the stone or tile structure.

Application is fast: the surface is thoroughly cleaned and dried, the product is applied by spray or microfibre applicator, allowed to dwell for 15–30 minutes, and excess is buffed off. The treatment reaches full cure in 24 hours but can be walked on within 2 hours. In a typical hotel environment, the protection lasts 2–5 years depending on traffic levels and cleaning regimen.

Key Benefits

Stain Prevention

Liquids bead up on the surface instead of being absorbed, preventing permanent staining.

Footprint Reduction

Oleophobic properties dramatically reduce the visibility of fingerprints and foot marks on dark surfaces.

Invisible Application

No change to colour, gloss, texture or tactile feel. The treatment is completely undetectable.

Breathable

The treatment allows moisture vapour to escape from the stone, preventing trapped humidity and efflorescence.

Long-Lasting

2–5 year protection depending on traffic levels. Easy to reapply when needed.

Reduced Cleaning Effort

Treated surfaces require less aggressive cleaning products and less frequent deep cleaning.

Materials Treated

Marble & Granite

All polished and honed marbles, granites and natural stones, including porous varieties.

Travertine & Limestone

Highly porous stones that benefit most from impregnating protection against liquid absorption.

Porcelain Stoneware

Polished, lapped and honed porcelain tiles, especially dark colours prone to showing footprints.

Terracotta & Cotto

Unsealed terracotta tiles that are extremely absorbent and stain-prone without protection.

Concrete & Terrazzo

Polished concrete and terrazzo surfaces in contemporary hospitality and commercial spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the treatment darken my light-coloured marble?

No. Our impregnating sealers are specifically formulated not to darken or alter the colour of the stone. We use “colour-neutral” formulations for light marbles and natural-look sealers for stones where a slight colour enhancement is desired. We always test on a small inconspicuous area first.

Does the anti-stain treatment make the floor slippery?

No. The impregnating sealer does not create a surface film, so it does not affect slip resistance. The floor feels exactly the same underfoot. In fact, because liquids bead up rather than spreading, the floor may actually be less slippery when wet.

How long before the floor can be used after treatment?

Light foot traffic is possible after 2 hours. Full cure is reached in 24 hours, after which the floor can be cleaned normally. We recommend avoiding wet cleaning for the first 24 hours to allow the product to fully bond with the stone.

Can the treatment be combined with anti-slip treatment?

Yes. We frequently combine anti-stain and anti-slip treatments in a single intervention. The anti-slip treatment is applied first, followed by the anti-stain sealer once the surface has dried. This provides both safety and stain protection in one visit.

Is the treatment safe for food preparation areas?

Yes. Once cured, our sealers are food-safe, non-toxic and do not leach any chemicals. They are suitable for restaurant floors, hotel kitchen corridors and any area where food contact with the floor surface is possible.
